Are you visiting Munich soon and want to know where the locals go? I’ve made a list of my favorite places and hope you get to see as much as you can. Enjoy!

Munich by locals

Places to visit:

– Isar (the river) and take a walk and/or picnic on the shore at Frühlingsanlagen or Flaucher

– Marienplatz and see the famous Glockenspiel

Viktualienmarkt, a market with everything you can imagine to eat and drink

– Odeonsplatz, Hofgarten, Residenz (castle)

– Englischer Garten – huge park with the famous “Eisbachwelle” for all-year surfers

Schloss Nymphenburg (castle with very nice park)

– Museum if the weather is bad: Neue Pinakothek or Museum Brandhorst or Haus der Kunst. All amazing. Check the current exhibitions.

– Visit a beergarden if you’re in Munich in the summer months. My favorites are Königlicher Hitschgarten, right in the park, Flaucher Biergarten close to the Isar and Bavaria Biergarten next to Theresienwiese.

My favorite cafes, restaurants & bars

Accommodation

If I would be in Munich for just 2-3 days, I would choose my accommodation in Glockenbachviertel, it’s very hip, close to the city center and to the Isar (river). There are nice cafes, restaurants, and small shops everywhere.

Other nice neighborhoods are: Maxvorstadt (where most of the students live, lots of bars), Schwabing (a bit richer) and I live in Westend (up and coming area).

Yoga classes are all great at Patrick Broome Studios or at Jivamukti (Glockenbachviertel). If you wanna go smaller check out happy belly yoga or Roni’s Yoga studio, they have very talented teachers, too!

Favorite running routes: Westpark, from Arnulfpark to Pasing next to the rails, Olympiapark
